Marilynn (“Merrill”) Lynn Katz Hansen was a popular early contributor to the Insider. She was a legal assistant and frustrated writer who wished she could be Nora Ephron “if only for a day.” Writing from West Bloomfield, Mich., Merrill brought her own brand of humor and creativity to our fledgling publication at a moment when we and our readers were struggling to find our way through the pandemic. We are deeply grateful to have worked with her, and offer her family our sincere condolences.

Nice tribute, Andrea. Merrill was one of my favorite people. We shared a similar sense of humor, a love of Famous Dave’s Pickles, and a love of anchovies on our pizza. And I owe Merrill a special debt of gratitude for prodding and encouraging me to submit a piece to The Insider.
